buddie has got a kick in the face off another horse- poor boy! the cut couldnt be stitched and seems to be healing relatively well- is there anything i can do or apply to reduce the risk of permanent scarring or will it definately scar for life? he is such a pretty boy and this will ruin his good looks- i know looks arent everything- but i would like to show him- please help!

Where abouts in the face? I know the less irritaion the better. Is it some thing that could be covered wioth a fly mask? There are several ointments out here for scarring. I like to use plain old Neosporin. Works as well on horses as it does humans.

Calendula Ointment does a wonderous job of quickly healing tissue and preventing scarring. You can get it at a health food store. You might also want to consider giving Calendula 30C Homeopathic remedy for 2 days. Just dissolve 4 - 5 pellets in a small amt. of water and syringe into the mouth.

I just use Nitrofurozone/sulfur powder mixed and a fly mask...........Have the exact same problem right now. My Arabian mare got kicked right in the forehead. Layed the skin over and wasnt able to be stitched, but super-glued.

wonder dust is a GREAT thing for scarring. we used it on my appy gelding, it eats away at the proud flesh, and helps promote new growth! it's a great thing to keep around
