He is soo L-a-z-y.. what to do?!

I really want my horse to be a bit more 'fired - up' when i ride him, i also don't want him getting dead to the leg....

What should i do to make him more energetic?
A special feed?
More or less excercise?

Tips would be great!
ask any questions if you want to know!

What are you feeding your horse? Because something might be making him sluggish.
MORE exercise. Is he in a stall all day or out in a pasture? He needs to get out and be able to move around instead of just sitting there all day. Take him for a walk to get him more active, or let him run and play for a minute before you get on.
Your last resort is a crop. If nothing else works, use it to make him pay attention. Only taps or small hits to get him to pay attention. Use it on his rump even.

Some horses are just naturally lazy, and always tend to be that way. You have to keep after them. A crop is the only thing I can think of that might perk your horse up. But like I said, it sounds like laziness might just be his natural temperament. I prefer a more forward horse, and I find that mine are that way naturally. I don't think I'd get along very well with a lazy horse, as that would be a boring ride for me. I ride a friend's horse sometimes when I visit her, and by the end of the ride, my legs are so sore from having to constantly squeeze to keep him going. I find it very annoying.
