Has your vet ever missed a pg in your mare?

I have a mare that I am leasing for breeding. The stallion and mare are both proven breeders and I have taken her to him twice and both times, she has not settled. This mare and stallion had a beautiful filly together last year. The last time she stood for the stallion was April 22 and I had her ultrasounded on May 7th, 15 days later. Is there a possibility that he could miss something this soon after breeding. Both times she has had really nice size follicles and has stood very easy for the stallion. I have noticed that she is being really stand offish to her pasture mates who are all geldings and usually she is always with them but for the past 3-4 days she is always by herself. She should be coming in to season on Fri or sat. I asked the vet if he felt any follicles on Monday but he said their weren't really any good size ones. I am now past the 500.00 mark on trying to get this girl pregnant and am wondering where I should draw the line. I have had this mare cultured and the stallion has already settled 3 mares this year so I am not sure what is going on. Any help you can give me anyone would be great.

Well, if your mare was bred on April 22, but didn't ovulate for another 24 to 48 hours, then the ultrasound done on May 7th would be at 13 or 14 days. Personally, I have no problem finding a conceptus at 12 days, but others are a bit more challenged <smile>...I suspect it has more to do with the NUMBER of ultrasounds I do.

Yup. Keep teasing...ESPECIALLY now.

Uh...remember that follicular development is essential for pregnancy maintenance. So, relying on the fact that there is or isn't follicles for pregnancy determination is totally unreliable. Additionally, about 10 to 20% of mares will display estrus despite being pregnant, so teasing isn't necessarily reliable, either.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I have a really good teasing gelding that I will start introducing her to over the fence tomorrow to see if we get any reaction the next few days. The only thing that I have not done that I will do this time is have an ultrasound after breeding to make sure she ovulated. Thanks again
