Wow. Could someone please go to their house and show them how to fit a regular stable halter (ie, this is not a show halter, people) on their stallion, please? My images are a bit funny, since I'm on dial-up and running an accelerator (fuzzy, but faster images) but it looks like there are rub marks on his nose from that poorly-fit halter. Is it just my fuzzy picture?

In response to the OP. We really can't compare the two based on an old picture from last year (of your current horse) and a poor picture of the colt you are looking at.

You asked if you were getting closer with the new colt. I assume you mean closer to a nice stallion prospect? While I'll admit, the newer colt is certainly more eye-appealing based on those pictures, it's hard to say. What do you intend to do with the horse, other than breed? What will his "job" be? That will make a big difference in what we would expect the stallion to look like. After all, a WP horse doesn't usually look like a halter horse, even in that same breed. (Sad as that makes me, but alas, that is a different topic entirely.)

well lets put it all in a nut shell my FAVORITE horse is Hot Diggity Joe. He does Halter, WP, HUS, Driving, jumping and more. though getting one of his get is not the answer cause they are all prominant hunt seaters. I also know that even the big names arent selling. I went to a auction and could of picked up a Dont Skip Zip 2 year old son for 500. but I dont want to do JUST western or JUST halter. thats why this colt is being gelded in the first place he wont cut it for WP at the level (breed level) I want to compete. true im still young and prone to changing my mind alot but still I know I want to show AQHA. this would be my ideal horse:
2 year old, tall, halter bred western pleasure moving FILLY (im done with trying to find a stud)an apha/AQHA registered one would be great but not a must. I'd prefer a grey but not a must either her sire must have a ROM in something. I'd like How D Roman Breeding on the bottom but its optional. the price range before the sale of my colt: 500-800(and payments) price range hopefully after the sale of my colt: free-1000 (cash so to speak). this should be relitively easy seeing as people seem to be dumping thier horses. I seen a almost finnished (lope was abit fast) Zippo's aftershock mare out of a 3 time champion halter mare go for 1000. im not looking for finnished or close to it. unbroke or slightly started 2 year olds are going for almost dirt cheap. I seen a finnished reining stallion bring 1500! thats just sad. but anyways. my colt gets gelded soon and im breaking him for WP and he will be great for open shows and for kids. so if anyone knows anyone im asking 1000 obo and that includes the gelding and 30 days training (training rate after that is $200 plus board since im just starting out) if anyone wants a video let me know but he has too much hock action for anything more than open. his front end is pretty flat and when he goes slow his hock action is minimized but still present. we shall see if the next angle ajustment makes a difference and if and when the time comes if weight in the saddle will help him level out. none the less he will make a super kids horse not spooky ,dont care about anything...you know the drill all the reasons that backyarders like to keep thier studs, studs. he will make someone an amazing gelding...he's quite lazy sometimes but he should also be able to stride out for open HUS.

According to AllBreed (yes I know it isn't the "be all and end all") the sire - Never Too Cool - does go back to Poco Bueno on top (Poco Dell) and bottom (Poco Pine - known HERDA carrier).

I will be honest, I did not know what HERDA was, so I looked it up. OMG that is just horrific! What is it with Halter horses and disgusting genetic mutations? Any others I should know about? (Feel free to PM me to not clutter up this thread.)

just for info there are MANY MANY Poco Bueno offsping and not even HALF are halter horses prolly. most of em are prolly the 'foundation' bred seeing as he's a favorite amoung them. but we shall not dive into that.

HERDA is more prominent in cow-bred horses than halter-bred actually.

Ok. Sorry, Bluwind, somehow I was under the impression that you were looking for a stallion for future breeding purposes.

Good luck finding your future show prospect! :-)

Ah, my mistake, my inexperience showing again. I just figured that since the OP was looking for a Halter prospect, then it would carry halter bloodlines.

It is not a halter breeding thing... but it is more of a performance horse thing... many different lines are known to carry it. One of the things to look for is scaring on the back ... that stallion appears to have something on his back ... I have no idea what it is but given his pedigree I would for sure want to know that anything I am buying is clear of HYPP and HERDA.
