hard thing in neck?

yesterday i was grooming cody and noticed that he had a hard long lump in his neck. it is right in the middle of the front of his neck about 5 inches down from his throat latch and about 3 inches long. i can move it from side side. he is breathing and eating fine. the vet was just out for shots and check ups and he didn't notice it. it feels kinda round like a cylinder. what could it be?

How old is Cody? What breed is he?

Arrow's got something like that--the vet told his old owner that it's something calcified from an old wound or whatever and wasn't doing him any harm. That's just where Arrow's is, though his might be smaller.

cody is a TB and about 28 years old.

It sounds like he could have a fat deposit on his neck from his shot. We have two horses at our farm that have those from getting shots.
