| Senior Member+ | happy mouth bit?
i have a TB mare who has had her teeth floated recently. i've been riding her in a mullen mouth rubber loose ring since i got her in june or so. she grinds her teeth and puts her tongue over anything metal, and she also doesn't seem to like the nutcracker action of a snaffle bit. (i always use metal bits with copper mouthpieces when i must use metal) she's got enough muscle built up now so that she has a bit more energy, and the plain loose ring isn't cutting it. my friend has been riding her in a rubber mullen mouth pelham w/ no chain and it seems to be doing the trick. however, i don't want to have to ride with double reins all the time, and i'm told that the bit connectors kind of kill the whole point of using a pelham. she seems to not pay much attention to the loose ring anymore-- she'll run right through it. can anyone recommend a good bit? has anyone tried the happy mouth bits? they still seem pretty hard to me. |

| Senior Member+ | Im using a standard Happy Mouth on a green mare. I like it; I bought a flexible O-ring that is more her size. The above pic is one that came up when I googled "horse bits Happy Mouth". (Dover has a lot of varieties of the Happy mouth, including a hanging Baucher. But the lil snots have copyrighted their ads pics & I couldnt copy them |
