Question Hanoverian with a Quarter Horse

I'm considering breeding my purebred Hanoverian mare to a Quarter Horse. Do y'all think that would be a good mating? She is a former show horse with excellent conformation and he's a good tall well built stallion. I was considering breeding to an Arabian stud, but this is her first foal and before I spend that type of money I want to see how she does just as a mother first.

What do y'all think???????

Well, to give any kind of decent answer we'll need to see pictures of your mare and whatever stallion you're considering...

But I have to ask... why? Warmbloods and Quarter Horses are generally so vastly different, I myself wouldn't feel a need to mix the two. I can see an Arabian putting a little "stretch" on a warmblood but so much depends on the individual horse... with the market the way it is, I'd rather see people breed like to like than experiment.

As far as money goes... save your money and breed to what you want to breed to. It's not fair to the future foal to "test" your mare on a "cheaper" stallion (there are tons of cheap Arabs out there too yanno). It's not really fair to the market to "test" at all! Breed to the best you can if you're going to breed.JMO.

Actually I REALLY like the conformation on the stallion, and the disposition. Delight also has issues with loading, so I want to not stress her by hauling her to the new farm. I'll get pictures of the stallion this weekend, but I just posted some pictures of Delight. She's in the Other Horses under Mares.

I have seen some really nice looking wb/qh crosses..and some really terrible looking ones; it really depends on the mare and stud. Personally, I like arabian/warmblood crosses better, but again, it depends on the the parents.

If you are concerned with the stud fee for arabians, just know that the stud fee is, in many cases, the CHEAPEST part of breeding. Mare care, vet appts, ultrasounds, etc. add up extremely fast.

I'm having trouble finding a warmblood in my area to breed her to. Most of the horses around me are QH. I did find an Arab stud for $500, but she stresses so badly when I load her in trailers, I don't want to do that to her if I can avoid it. Unless anyone has tips on how to avoid stress during transport.

Actually, I would LOVE to breed her to a Thoroughbred, but the ones I want are outrageously expensive (as in $10,000 and up).

Have you considered doing AI? I'm sure you could find a fabulous Warmblood stallion that does AI. I think that would be the best route. Because right now it sounds like you really want to breed and are settling for a Quarter Horse because that's the common breed in your area. Am I right?

You love the confo of the QH.... why? What type is he? If he's a stock type, don't do it. If he's a sporthorse type with lots of TB blood, that's still a potential.

Where are you looking at TBs for over $10k? That is racing TB money, not sporthorse TB money. There are LOTS of sporthorse TB stallions for well under $2k stud fees.

There are so many nice WB stallions for under $2k, so many nice TB/Paint/WB mix stallions for under $2.
