I've gotten that from a fewhorses of different breeds acouple of stock horse types too, to me it seems to correlate with whether or not they free up their entire shoulder.

LOL! Which is why I think "hang time" can be misleading, depending on your discipline. I'm not sure if other disciplines think of something else with "suspension"?

FWIW, "hang time" referring to a horse jumping means how long he's in the air, and too much ht if it's a Jumper is a very bad thing. So, from my perspective, hang time, or suspension, refers to how much time the horse's gait keeps him off the ground. "Floaty" is another useful term too, but "suspension" is the techy term in the Dressage world

Yep, for sure, the shoulder HAS to be free in movement, which means no tension. But the back end also has to be pushing, driving the whole horse, and that's where it really comes from

Yes, I agree with JB term -suspension, and I want to add...
the physical forces of forward, upward , downward feeling, experiencing them over, over again.
It can be easy to ride these large animals when you have the proper positionning, balance and know how to go with the flow of these motions of feeling and without fear.
