In our open shows, the horses are lined up side to side, not head to tail. I guess they are afraid to get kicked.

No tricks, as far as I know. The horse should stand completely still, which is a feat in itself...

No, no tricks. In showmanship you line up side by side. In halter you line up head to tail.

Just out of curiousity, what sort of "tricks" did you have in mind?

I found some pictures of last years Reserve Champion Halter Arabian mare. Is the show you are going to an Abrabian show? Anyway, for Arabs of course conformation is most important, but they also want to see showy vibrant action, typical of the Arabian. High straight tail carriage, head high, and a brilliant personality. I have seen some pics of your mare Felicity, and she has the showy brilliance I am talking about. As far as conformation, they like a flat topline from withers to tail. You can see this mare has this, in fact it is as close to perfect as they come! Nice head and neck placement, more vertical than horizontal on the body, horizontal hip structure, anyway you get the point! Even if this isnt an all Arab show, show your Arab like it is! They will probably have some sort of pattern for you to do at the trot I would guess. Be sure to ask before you go in the ring! Good luck and take some pics!

Thank you very much for the pictures, Desertbred. The second one looks like little Miss Felicity. With tricks, my trainer taught Felicity how to bow as a three year old in training, and someone said that if you perform a trick, you may place higher.

Does any "Canadian" people here know where the halter classes are in BC?

Smile

That last photo was on a horse leaving the ring AFTER the class was over.
You no longer see horses in the ring moving with their heads up in the air like that when entering the ring and while being judged.
Arabian halter classes are a LOT different than from what they used to be and I highly suggest anyone who is planning on showing at an Arabian show to READ and STUDY the rules and go to several shows to get a idea about how each class proceeds.!
The Rules are online and free so there is NO excuse for not knowing them as well as the class proceedure and what it is judged on!
Arabian Shows Rule Book

In brief :
At Arabian Shows:
Hoof can be no longer than 4 1/2 inches
Horses under 2 years of age MUST be shown barefoot.
Shoes can weight no more than 14 oz.
Nothing can be used that will change the natural color of the hoofs.

In Filly/Mare Breeding Classes...AKA halter..

Emphasis is placed in the following order of importance:
Type
Conformation
Suitability as a breeding animal
Quality
Movement
Substance
Manners
and Presence

Horses enter the ring at a relaxed walk ( a 4-beat flat footed gait)
Each horse shall clear the gait at a walk before striking the trot.
The horse will then continue at a trot to it's position in line or as directed by the Ringmaster.
Horse shall then be asked to walk counter clockwise and or clockwise at the discretion of the Judge/s in a relaxed manner on a loose lead with the handler at the side of the horse with WHIPS DOWN.
The leadline MUST maintain a discernible drape, i.e., the handler must NOT place their hand on the chain or close enough to in any way restrict natural head and neck motion. Also the Handler may NOT unnecessary impede forward motion of the horse while at the walk
All horses to walk on the rail in each direction and past each (and all) Judge/s
After the walk ends horses shall be presented to the Judge/s individually.
Horse should stand correctly bearing weightt on all 4 feet (not stretched) in a quiet and deliberate manner.
Following evalustion horse shall walk and trot away from the Judge/s and resume their place in line
The horse "on deck" and the next 2 horses shall be the ONLY horses allowed to prepare of those in line,
There can be NO contact of the whip to the horse..and any contact shall result in elimination!
