okay. i have a aprox. 10hh pony that i am going to start showing in halter classes. our first one is coming up in 4 weeks. i need to know what kind of halter to buy. i do hunters, so he will be shown in halter classes at hunter shows, which is pretty rare around here, but there are a few. the one coming up is a hunter/western open schooling show. and we will probably be showing in quite a few of this type of shows. so im asuming the competition in the class will the the horses who compete in the western halter and showmanship classes. which i dont. and they will probably have the nice expensive blinged out halters. so what kind of halter do i buy flash? a blinged out western show halter? or just a plain matching leather halter and lead? right now, its the cheapest good quality one i can find that i want. but i am willing to invest in a more expensive one if it will be good for every type of show. if i go for the bling bling one, can i use it if a hunter halter class rolls around? we arent ever gona go really high in the competition world. one because i can barely afford the small shows i do. lol and second because he isnt registered or anything. believe it or not, ive found quite a few halter/lead sets on ebay and such for around 70 bucks (keep in mind he wears min horse sized .. lol tiny head) and ive bought leather goods from this person before, and i am VERY happy with the quality, certainly not pessoa, or anything, but good enough for me ;] so im not worried about that. however, there is both blinged out and plain leather. WHAT DO I BUY!?!? lol here are the halters bling Tackwholesale.com - The Biggest Online Tack Wholesale Company : Show Silver Halter Weanling to Mini Size [18-1440] - Tack Wholesale is where you can buy tack at wholesale pricing, even if you aren't a dealer! Tack Wholesale is America's largest, most plain Paris Tack FS Padded Raised Leather Halter ^^i think that might be too much for his little head tho. ^^

You don't have to have the bling. Since you will be doing Hunter halter. I believe you can show in the bridle. But this from a show mom whos kids show western. Around here you don't have to have a bling halter to win. Just a good fitting halter. One show my daughter was in a girl was complaining because her pony was wearing a nice nylon halter/lead. and the rest of the ponies had the bling halters on. She walked out with the blue. She had the nicest pony and it showed even without the nice halter.

I would go for the one without the bling. You will get a lot more use out of it. I personally have never been a fan of blingand these days not having bling will help you stand out at western shows |

I personally, since he is a hunter horse, would take him in halter in your bridle and english attire.

i will eventually, but this is a very small open show and it says halters are required. the show itself isnt even requiring full dress for the show. so its really a small show. but a good start for him

Well in that case, I'd do with a plain leather halter.

I would call the show secretary and ask if you can show with hunter attire and an English bridle. That's the way it's usually done, but should be fine to go with a leather halter. I would look for a nice one with contrasting padding, but for a small show, anything that is clean and in good condition should be fine.
