Halter and Bridle

Who here rides with a halter and bridle on their horse. I do cuz I have a lead rope on the halter drape over my saddle horn in case something happens while I'm riding and I have to lead her somewhere. I don't like the idea of pulling on the bit or leading with the reins and bit if I have too. Also I was told you should never tie a horse with the reins.

Around home I don't normally.
But when I am working as an outfitter at hunting camp I do. I am always haveing to get off and walk back along the pack string to adjust packs or sort out a mess the dumb pack horses have caused. My horse is normally good about groud tieing, but when there are 7 other horses hooked to him I don't quit trust him not to walk off. I have a nice thin rope halter I use most of the time, it fits well under my bridle.

When I'm trail riding I do...otherwise, it's just the bridle.

I usually do... when I ride... besides, if the horse somehow manages to get the bridle off, I still have the halter and lead rope.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Of course, you don't want to do this if you are showing. Otherwise, it is very handy.

Usually I just ride in a halter o nthe trails, and I always have a neck roap so it isn't a big deal.

But if I am riding with a bit I'll put a thin rope halter on underneath and use reins with snaps on the end. All you have to do is un hook the reins and snap them on the halter and Voila! instant leadrope!

Oh and you could also try riding in a halter-bridle
