I dont think ide ever do that.. theres those issues about who rides when and who pays for what... i lease, and thats really fun, if i were to get a horse ide buy it for myself, to avoid conflict and liability.

Buying a horse trailer has so many factors. The last time I bought a trailer I also thought of eventually selling it and having it be attractive to as many buyers as possible. I ended up having one custom made. Anyhoo, I was looking for aluminum (lighter and doesn't rust), tack room/dressing area, mangers, storage, and plenty of horse room. I did look at bendrup. They looked okay but I was concerned with their materials and bad weather. Be sure to check tongue weight, filled weight (for your truck). In a perfect world aluminum is great but expensive. There are lots of nice trailers that are less expensive. Make sure you get a great frame, double axle (wouldn't want a flat with a single), good floor, breaks, lights, etc. Needs to be safe and an easy hauler. |

Oppppps, you got the wrong reply. Half owning a horse can be exciting but be careful to work out the details of who pays for what. If you can both agree to split everything 50/50 that would be great. Don't forget shots, shoes, and other little items. They mount up fast. As for problems with who rides when, yep, they can come up but you could easilly make up a schedule. The big thing would be that you both agree on the level of accepted care for the critter--ie. check feet before and after riding, cooling out well, safety things. I have been in horses all my life, judge/breed/show and I have seen a whole lot of horses with mystery owners--so there is almost always enought time for two to share. Like I said find someone with like interests and feelings. If one of you wants to barrel race and the other wants to show pleasure they conflict. But two who both enjoy ring/trail riding would get along perfect--just both agree no running on gravel for miles. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. running_

I think a better senario would be for you and your friend to half LEASE a horse together. That way you have all the fun of 'owning' a horse, without the responsibility of figuring out what to do with it when life changes and someone wants out.

HEre are some scenarios 1) I know two girls share a horse. Girl A bought it. Girl B shares it. Girl A going to college. Girl B moving. Girl A says she will let girl B take the horse as she will have no time. Girl A finally realises she paid for horse! oops! Has to ask girl B for money and sell her the horse. 2)LADY buys horse to use as working livery doesn't tell owners of yard that Cow will be sharing horse. Horse not suitable for beginners or novice lessons. THey use all available lesons riding horse. Yard owner not amused! Lady pays for nearly everything says she earns more than cow and it wouldn't be right to split costs. Both work shifts. Take horse out of working livery. Cow afraid of horse and never rides it. Lunges an hour every day instead. Horse always goes lame. Poor horse. Cow tells everyone it is HER horse. Poor horse. 3)Woman owns horse, rarely rides. Asks someone to take full time care of horse and she will pay bill. WOrks well for both. in turn the horse is totally looked after. GRoomed, exercised, trained to be better, loved and loved and loved. Woman owns horse, rarely rides, puts horse in working livery, asks someone to look after horse and she will pay bill. Someone looks after the horse and runs at womans every beck and call. AS above. Woaman owns horse, shares with someone and gives them designated days to ride. THen goes up on their designated days to ride herself and says she is riding instead. AFter two hours travel someone has to travel two hours home having not ridden. Someone goes half on everything woman wants for horse. NEW TAck,NEW rugs - everything! But if horse needs supplements someone has to pay for it if she wants horse to not be in pain cos woman won't! Someone gets her own horse and woman keeps all the new stuff! If you are going to share a horse it may work for some and not for others. CAn you split days to suit eachother? Do you both want to compete.? ARe you both the same level of experience and capabilities? ARE you as good as eachother? Will you both train the horse the same? Will you split ALL the costs 50/50? Will the horse be bought by one person or both? I'D draw up a contract! BE absolutely certain its what you want. I'd be VERY reluctant to share my horse. If you can possibly do it yourself, do it. CAll me selfish! i love my horse! |

i half own Ozzy.. a really nice lady who does the same kind of riding shares him with me.. she actually owns him.. its not really a big conflict like everyone thinks it is. If you find someone who you can trust, it's really fine. THe lady i share him with is super nice so thats great. the reason she shares him is cuz she works and she can't ride him as much as she'd like to. her old sharing person said she wud come ride Ozzy, but didnt she told us in advance that she might be selling him next year cuz of a job transfer or something and that we'd be first on the list to ask to buy him |
