Half chap

ok so i plan on showing english, and really starting my english carrier this winter and next summer, But here is my pickle.
MY mom was thinking about buying me boots for my birthday, but she wants to know if i would rather a tall leather boot, a tall rubber bott or a paddock type boot with half chaps, i kinda leaning towards paddock boots with half chaps but can you were half chaps while showing in stuff like flat classes hunters or jumpers??? (im not really planning on much jumping next year but just in case lol)
Any replies would be greaty Also im scarred to get leather cause there really expencive and i dont wonna wear them out. Cause keep in mind that i want something that i can wear everyday and at a show. (I would take crazy good care of them)
but k thanx again

I would go with the leather tall boots, personally. Mine are the Ariat ones, and they were only 400$.. I wear them every day, and intend to show in them at the beginning of this season. They hold up well if you take care of them properly.

If you get leather boots, and take care of them, there is no reason you can't ride in them every day, and still polish them up for shows....just don't wear them for stable work, just riding...change into them just before tacking up....Cathy

You can get equileather tall boots. They're cheaper than regular tall boots, and you don't have to worry about them as much as leather. Plus, break in's supposed to be waaay easier

Here's an example: USPC Field Riding Boot - Dover Saddlery

Dover has Devonaire Le Cord tall leather field boots on sale for only $99. Those are the boots I bought for my daughter when she was first starting out. We sold them when she out grew them and the other teen is still wearing them two+ years later. Great boots for the price!

I don't think that would work too well, it would be too bulky....good shoe polish will cover any scratches...Cathy

Agreed with Jump....Devon Aire has great tall boots for not much money and they last. I had a pair for over 4 years that I showed in..just sold them to someone else too. I also now have Ariat tall boots, but found them online for 100 bucks....just gotta be persistant in finding the deals.

I would NOT put half chaps over tall boots,,,,the likely case is that the chaps will rub the boots badly and make them look bad. Either wear the boots or something else.

And yes, at some shows (schooling and lower level...check the rules for THAT show first) you CAN wear boots and chaps. If you do go that route, make sure you get black boots and chaps...and get the smooth leather chaps as well so it appears to look like tall boots.

You don't need 600 dollar boots. Ariat, Sergios, etc., are great quality-but the 100 dollar ones are perfectly fine.

I have a pair of Ovations I got for 100 new and they're doing great-Like Xiphias says black show polish will cover nearly anything up. You can get boot covers to put around the foot part to protect it from scuffs and mud. You don't wear half chaps over boots though.

The leather half chaps are honestly just as expensive as some of the boots-so I would just stick with the tall boots.

i have a pair like these. i have Saxons. there was literally no break in time. they were as soft as can be. for schoolin jumper shows, you can wear half chaps and paddock boots (i like to go in in tall boots anyway) depending on the show, but it's a big no-no for hunters, no matter what.
Madamoiselle mentioned boot covers for them, i agree. Dover and many shoe stores have rubbers to put over the boot. but their a HUUGE PITA to get on and off. last time i went to a Dover store, they had something called Futis, much easier to get on and off.
