hair loss

Kendras new horse has about a quater size hair missing in the center right under his withers. We are pretty sure that the saddle fits. we put it on w/out the pad and it doesn't seem to be resting on anything it shouldn't. However if we move it up too far it looks like it could have rubbed in the area where the hair is missing. We went to a show on Saturday, and when we got home the hair was missing. I guess I am wondering if the saddle is the cause would it have come off so fast and so much?? Also is there anything I can do to help it grow back. Someone told me that there was nothing we could do if the saddle rubbed it off. But there must be something. I don't even care if it come back white, I just want hair there instead of an ugly bare spot!!
Also any tips to help make sure the saddle fits??

umm my feeling is that the saddle obviously moves once on the horse!! i think you should get this checked it could not only cause hair loss but serious back problems!!!

Is the bare spot scaly at all? Is the hair growing back on it's own yet? Could be ringworm.
Put some anti-fungal cream on it asap, I use one with Tea Tree oil and hydrocortisone. Works well.

Also for it growing back, I have a hoof ointment that I use on bare spots, my one horse had skinned herself on the back of her leg, and there was a bare spot for a while, and after applying the hoof ointment a few times the hair grew back very quickly!

Check it isn't the pad, sometimes they can sit tight over the withers and rub. Also if your horse has a rug on it could be that...

Well, I still think it could be the result of a poor fitting saddle. However, it *could* be ringworm. Could you post pictures of it?
