You can... you can also use baby oil, BUT they are not as effective at keeping breakage to a minimum and baby oil makes a pretty big mess... but it works. For me, Cowboy Magic is what I keep in my box for detangling purposes. You only need a tiny amount, so while it seem kind of expensive up front, you use much less of it then most other products, and it really DOES make knots and tangles easily glide out with almost no breakage at all if you work through then knots with your fingers before attempting to comb them out.

Probably...horse hair is different from human hair, so human hair detangler might not work as well. I personally think Show Sheen works the BEST and you really don't need a lot. It makes the hair shiny and smooth too-I don't know if a human product would do that very well.

Actually, I use Miracle Groom and it works wonderfully on manes and tails. It whitens, detangles, shines, and smells great! I would be careful when using human products on horses. Horses have lots of oils in their tails, and you don't want to use something that will strip it.

Try "Infusium" leave-in treatment. The stuff for people. I've used that for years. Just put some in a spray bottle & use on their mane & tail. Works well, my horses' manes & tails look & feel great. I had tried the healthy hair care moisturizer for horses( I think that's what it's called) and did not like it. Too "greasy". (I may not have mixed it right tho' ) "Infusium" you don't need to mix--just shake the bottle & spray. Moisturizes, detangles--and leaves the mane & tail soft & full. Now if it would only work that way on MY hair!

I try to stay away from stuff like cowboy magic and show sheen (they work and smell great) because they both have silicone in them that can actually cause more breakage. Try Healthy Hair Care products...they are amazing and actually enriched with vitamins that nutrure the hair. The only semi human stuff I've used is Mane&Tail which is ok. Before shows I actuallt dilute DAWN dish soap and bathe him in it and it makes him shine!!! Hope this helps.

I use Infusium also!!

It works great and makes the mane and tail sparkle! Not to mention that its a breeze to comb after you spray it on!

Vetrolin Detangler, in my opinion, has longer lasting effects. It is a couple of $$ cheaper too. I was a firm believer in Cowboy Magic, but I've since converted
