Had a horse get hit in front of my house:(

I woke up and got to work (where I also reside) and got a phone call. The lady says "Are you missing any horses?". My heart sunk to my toes.

Come to find out my neighbor's horse had gotten out the night before and got hit by a truck. My neighbor on the other side of me had the vet out and got her stitched up. She was walkin but scarred up pretty good.

I was so worried that it was one of our horses

I feel so bad for that mare though

WOW, that is so sad!!! at least her horse survived! i remember about 5 yrs ago or so, my friends little sister is handicapped and in a wheel chair, they had her a special saddle made and all, and she had her special horse. someone left the gates open, and he got hit by an 18 wheeler. it was so sad b/c that horse had SOOOO much money invested in him for training for her. i'm glad her horse is alive, that's a sad thing to happen to any animal!

That's so sad! I hate to hear things like that!

Not too long ago-- I think a month ago, a horse and rider were hit in my town. The guy that hit them didn't stop! I don't know how, but the police found him and arrested him. Do you know what the IDIOT claimed???? He said that someone stole his car and must have hit them and then brought it back and left it!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!!

The horse had to be put down on the scene and the rider put into the hospital with serious injuries! Even worse, it wasn't his horse! He had borrowed it from a friend to go for the ride!

Horses DO have the right away in our town! It used to be one of the most horse geared towns in California. People probably say it still is, but it's not! There has been a lot of building going on, houses and stores. The houses are 1/2 acre lots like most other homes in town (it's what I have) except these are 1/2 acres built up the sides of hills! No way horses can be kept on them! So the people moving in are mostly rich snobby types from OC (sorry if anyone reading is from OC) who care nothing for the horses. We have had a lot of horse people move out because of this and more people move in with no horses.

We have dirt horse trails instead of sidewalks. I actually have people tell me when I ride by now if I could go in the street past their house because they just washed their cars!!! You know what I say??? IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, THEN MOVE!!!!!!! I mean seriously? Why are they moving here and ruining it for the rest of us? They speed through town, don't slow for horses, honk at horses.....it's getting to the point where it's not safe to ride anymore!

I dont worry about that in my new barn, but at my old one the horses broke out of paddocks all the time, usually the newer ones since they didnt respect the wire, but that left it down for the others..
Im glad that horse is ok, I hope it didnt damage her too much mental wise

Last week I was doing some yard work, and hear the sound of thundering hooves coming up the road. As I look up 2 arabians belonging to a neighbor came storming by wide open. Me along with some neighbors finally caught them up and put them in a small corral here at my house. After talking to sveral neighbors, we discovered that this had happened several times. we reluctantly gave the horses back to the owner, only to find out that they had gotten out again the next day.

Horse people, PLEASE.... take care of your horses, maintain your fences, and keep them safe.

Imagine hitting an 1100 lb animal at about 50 mph in a sports car. Not only bad for the horse, but could be bad for the driver as well.

We have to be responsible horse people in order to keep the sport alive.

That is terrible, I hope she recovers quickly. And here's hoping there is no mental trauma. A friend I know lost two horses to the highway and one to a train. It's the most horrible thing to overcome.

Wishing the horse and owner all the best. Sorry to hear it happened in your front yard, that's an awful wake up call.
