Lightbulb ? Hackamore ?

If you look at the pic below the reider is just using a droped noseband with reins attached. This would be a whole lot cheaper than buying a bridle and a hackamore. Would this be safe to use on a light horse that is used to a jumping hackamore already?

this pic is from sustainable dressage.

No! That's very dangerous. That does not fit like a hackamore at all. It is down on the nose causing danger of shutting off airways as well as breaking tender bones and damaging cartiledge.

Ahh.. very good point! What if it was adjusted looser and higer (almost like a halter)

Yes, or at least properly adjusted it does. Hackamores should fit like a properly fitted halter, in that area. Not on the nose like that.

It could work I suppose, but I would not do it. Dropped nosebands are not designed to have any pressure put on them, at all. So therefore, they're not designed to have any pressure put on them, at all. I'd say it wouldn't take long at all for one to fall apart on you. Not a situation you want to be in. Why not just use a halter?

I was going to say what Dawn said about being so low that it might break the cartilage. When the drop nose band is being used as a cavesson noseband then there isn't rein pressure on it, but with the reins working directly on it it could cause some seriouse damage. I *personally* don't see why it would be physically harmful if the nose band was ajusted higher to sit where a halter would sit. That's as far as the positioning goes, whether or not it could be affective or last like Dawn also mentions is another question.
