Ok very dumb question. I pernouce grulla, well grulla or grullo. I heard someone say "greeto" or something like that. How many ways can you pronounce it?

Oz is right! It's spanish and the 'll' sounds like 'y'. so groo-ya or groo-yo is correct

I have always pronounced it...."Grew-ya". Though I have herd people pronounce it "Grew-luh"...but that sounds off/funny to me.

And, yes there are two spellings, grulla and grullo. AQHA uses grullo....I use grulla.

Technically since the word is Spanish "grullo" would be a male horse of that color, and "grulla" would be a female horse if I remember my High School Spanish right.

I thought this was interesting:

Quote:
The word grullo originates from the Spanish word "grulla", which refers to a slate-gray crane. Because of the Spanish origin of the name, some people will refer to a mare as a grulla and a stallion as a grullo, pronounced "grew-ya" and "grew-yo" respectively.

Little Red Dun is right. the O at the end is masculine, A is feminine. I was raised around everone who says it "grew-la" but I know the correct way is "grew-ya" but it sounds weird when i say it with the "ya" and people look at me weird.
