Grrr...! Okay I am so upset. My barn manager yelled at me today because I kept mentioning that joe's stall stinks really bad! Little more on the problem... Joe has matts his his stall because he paws (I didnt buy the matts for him, Matt put him in a stall that had mats from a horse that left). He pees in teh same spot in his stall, and we think that the pee goes under the matts and makes the clay stink get wet and stink. Well its really gross and if you are just in there cleaning it it gives you a headache, its really that bad! Well its been like that for over a month, and I tell him all the time that "we" have to get it cleaned up because its really nasty. And he is always like I know but I need to be able to but him a different stall so taht it can air out, and he is always saying he will find time for it. Well Last weekend, me and another girl at my barn lifted the matts as best as we could and put some lime powder stuff that is supposed to help (by ourselves of course, like its really my job to be doing that!)Well it didnt really do much because its reallly bad, and we have to take the matts all the way out and clean them with bleach our something and let the stall air out. Those matts weigh a lot and it was really hard to do what we did do. And the BM was going to help I guess, but some people showed up and he had to show them around. Whatever. Okay but today he seemed mad because I guess I was "supposed" to do it in the morning before I went riding but I didnt. And then I guess he told this girlt aht that we should do it, and when we were going to, he was all mad and was like its to late in the day to do it now. What makes me mad is that I pay him 275 dollars a month (more now because he says joe gets more feed then the others so its like 20 dollars more. Tahts not a big deal though, I mean I could just clean his stall when I am out there and it would make up for it). If I have to go to the barn to lift heavy matts and wash them and do all that stuff, then in my opinion my board should be lowered. I pay HIM to that that he doesnt do it. My horse stands in a stall taht smells AWEFULLY BAD of amonia, and its been like that for over a month. Its not fair. And today he yelled at me because I was picking out his stall and I kept mentioning that his stall stunk really bad, (trying to hint that it should be done, and since I pay HIM to do it, maybe he should do it). Well he was all like "I heard you already, I know taht it stinks!" and he said it in a mean voice to. I mean is it just me? Because the way I see it I shouldnt have to do that. If I am going to be doing all that stuff, I could take him to my friends house and do the work myself and pay her 100 or so a month. Am I right on this, or am I over reacting? Oh yeah, I was really upset and on the verge of tears when my dad picked me up. I dont do well when adults (that arent in my family) yell at me. I was really upset about it. I told my dad what happened and he was mad about it. He pays the board so I can go out and ride, not so I can go work for nothing. He is going out to talk to him tomarrow about it, and told me that if things dont chage we will find a new barn. Dont get me wrong, I dont mind working or cleaning stalls or anything, I dont mind at all to help out, but for me to have to do that big "project" on his stall shouldnt be my problem. And if he wanted me to help, thats okay, but to yell at me because it was a nice day and I wanted to go ride, instead of doing something that isnt my job, is not fair. Well its just a rant, I am so upset though. And the problem is that my dad is kinda upset because I pay full board and this problem with his stall has been going on for a while. He wants me to find a new place to board. But he thinkis, I love my friends there and the people there, and just being there. I love the barn....I dont want to leave but I might have to... My friend told me that if I leave, she will come with me to, because the BM is always taking out what ever problems he has on us and its not fair. Wow...this is REALLY long! |

IMO Your NOT overreacting. I would be Pi$$ED if the barn manager wouldnt atleast help you. I pay $275 a month where I board and they do EVERYTHING but when Im out I clean my stall and do extra just because I enjoy it not becaus the Barm Manager is to pathetic to do it or help. I would most Deff. Have your dad talk to the man!! But I would be carefull because people can be mean and cruel so I would deff. Not tick him off too much with him watching over your horse!!

Thank you! The BM isnt always like this, but I guess he gets caught up his his own problems and takes it out on a few of us at the barn. I really hope it works out because I really love that place and I dont know what I would do with out it and without the people I know there.

yeah cowgirl. I hadnt thought about that. I really dont think he would do anything like that, he is good with the horses and I have never seen him do anything mean/bad to the horses. Your right, I mean I to like to go out and clean my horses stall because I enjoy doing it myself, I like taking care of my own horse. But I should HAVE too. Thanks

I feel for you, it sounds like your BM is being totally unfair! I had a problem with Stars stall a couple weeks back (long story, but basically the light that is used so that the BM can see the stall clearly when mucking was left hooked onto the stall, and Star knocked it done. Light bulb broke, glass everywhere. I cleaned up what i could and got as much of the glass as i could i wrote a note to my BM and when i came up the next morning she apologized 5 times, and swept out the entire stall and put in all new bedding) To me, that is what a barn manager should do, clean up a mess with little to no asking. It is their job to keep the stalls clean, and if there is a a bad smell, or glass, or mould (i knew of one horse who got mold under the mats, and the BM kept saying o, its nothing! til they found the mold) It is their job to take care of it! If you want to help, that is very nice of you, but you should NOT be obligated to! |

If you can walk into his stall and smell ammonia, his breathing is being restricted. I'v been there, done that as well...my barn really sucks for that kind of stuff and i pay 355 a month. I work there on weekends just to make sure the stalls are good. If you want to do something yourself, you can sprinkle Mucker's mate or Hydrated Lime on the floor where he pees. It absorbs the smell, and some of the urine. But i do agree,it's their job. You are the costumer, and you do pay. Something liek that shouldnt be a big deal. It's just proper care.
