grrr...I'm mad

one of the girls at my stables keeps grooming one of the school horses with a metal curry brush. The poor horse just can't stand it, and when I tell her not to use it, she just goes on about how you're supposed to. I tell her that it's actually only there to clean the brushes but she won't believe it! what should I do? It's not my horse, so I don't know if there's anything I can do about it...

Tell the barn manager, her instructor, or anyone else that is in charge over her.

If she's not supposed to be using it, they'll put a stop to it.

I agree. Tell the BM, BO or the instructor. Have someone who is an adult that she will listen to show her how to do it properly.

=/ Tell the BO.

That must hurt. Give her a rubber one!

I got to agree, tell the BO, BM, her instructor, etc.
The only other thing I can suggest is if she's not using her own brushes and they are the barns, replace it with a rubber one and give the metal one to the BO or BM.

I used to use it until my old thoroughbred told me that it hurt his skin. It never bothered my moms paint, because she had thicker skin than he does. So now I never use it except to clean brushes (or get uber icky stuff on their coats, but even then I use it very lightly). I switched over to plastic/rubber currys, and rubber currys make the horses feel good.

I think they should do away with those darn metal spring curries or those square curry/tail comb. They are horrid in my opinion. I would not even have one at my barn. Shedding blades are different and are used for a different thing and on shedding hair.

I also agree to tell the BM or the Instructor or someone in charge. Or better yet have her bend over, expose her back, and you rake it down her back like she does the horse. If only that would happen she might decide it hurts. Horses have sensitive skin and I would not like to have a metal curry with short or long teeth going down my back. OUCH.

Just take it to an authorative person. Glad you know better.

Cool Metal Curry

Tell the barn owner/trainer/ whoever.....

If that doesn't work, take the metal curry and hide it......

Then she can't use it!
