Growing the tail long and fast

I have a qh mare and she has a really short short tail from her tail bone its about 6in. from it, i want it to be really long they cut it cuz her tail got in the way of her having a baby. i been brushing and trimming, and braiding it everday
i put her tail in a tail wrap, but when i got her her tail was all the way to the tail bone no longer and the yr ive had her it grew 6 in. i been washing it to. is there any way to make it grow longer in a faster time.

trimming wont do anything, the hair grows from the tail dock, so all you shoulkd really do is condition the dock of the tail weekly, and keep it up.

Lol, the stuff is actually called M-T-G and is made by Shapely's. Other than what you are doing you can condition the tail with this to help stimulate hair growth. I personally never brush my horse's tails as this can cause the hair to break. I finger pick through them, or if necessary, is use a COMB to reduce hair breakage. 6 inche in a year is a pretty good start. Keep up the good work!

I would be careful with the brushing - this can break it.

My TB has a short tail too - over the past 4 and a half years it has improved slightly but it is never going to be a good tail

I cheat - when we show I put little plaits in it the night before to give the impression of a thicker tail!

Okay my horse has the greatest tail every and my old tb did too. Here is what I do. For one thing don't brush it unless you have washed it and conditioned it and then sprayed a ton of show sheen or something it it. I don't like using tail bags because they seem to prevent the tail from getting thicker, but I would suggest it if they are our with someone that will eat it. Also MTG by Shapelys is awesome stuff, it smells nasty but it works to help grow the tail in a matter of a week or so. Another thing is to mix a little bit of baby oil with water and then dip the tail in it before you braid it if you put it in a tail bag, this keeps it moisturiezed. You don't use a lot of baby oil though, cus it will make it greasy if you use to much. I guess that is all I can think of right now, but it sounds like you are doing a good job with it.

well too much brushing of the tail can stop rapid growth if you do want to brush it make sure you use conditioner first

i would of thought leaving it to grow naturally would have been the best option

*she thinks hard*

I know for myself i love a long tail and i do baby my horses it is now nearly to the ground and all i do is only brush it when i have to and when i do i use a detangler on it first and let it sit for about 5 minutes and also i use listerine at the top of the tail to prevent any bacteria building up and making it itchy so the horse doesnt rub it off. I also sometimes use baby oil to keep the lower part of the tail from becoming dry adn brittle
