Ok. I will start off by saying that I do worm her regularly. She is gaining weight, but just isn't growing! lol, everybody here calls her a midget horse. I have notcied she has been getting bigger. I had to buy a bigger halter a couple weeks ago, but height wise it justn't doesn't seem to be going. Her parents were around 15hh. I can't remember now what exactly. yes she is reg. Her birthday is May 22nd I believe. I feed her just like a grain type of thing twice a day. Right now I don't have the money to be buying fancy horse feeds or whatever. This photo was taken probably around aug. Umm, if you have any other questions I guess just ask.

I will post some pics. When I got her and around now. When I find some.thanks

She probably doesn't have the nutrition she needs then...but does have the calories. That's why she's putting on weight but not height -- height takes nutrition, but you can put on just fat with calories and get weight gain.

Not every nutritious feed is expensive...actually ration balancers, which are VERY high nutrition are cheaper than 90% of other hard feeds out there. It costs me 88 cents/day to feed our 2 year old...and she's growing like a weed. A bag of my ration balancer cost about $20/bag, but it lasts a yearling approximately a month as opposed to the 10-15 days most other feeds last at appropriate feeding levels.

I have the same problem with my MFT filly, who will be 2 in May. She hasn't seemed to grow like at all and I've had her since she was like 7mos. I did have to buy a new halter so I know she's growing a little bit...! She also had the ribs/potbelly thing all summer, and I switched feeds and wormers which seemed to help. She was 14.1 at about 18 mos, but she has really tall parents and her dam is known for throwing huge, tall colts... I was kinda relieved to see that this is somewhat common!

Perhaps some foals/yearlings require more time to grow than others. Both of my foals are on Ration Balancers to complement what is missing in their hay. They are wormed regularly, ect.-get the best of care, and still my 18 month old is bit of a runt.

Can you give us more information about the feed, how much is fed, and how much it costs?

Also give us more information about your deworming schedule. Simply deworming every month, every other month, or once every 3 months does not mean that you're actually accomplishing anything.

I am not sure what exactly it is. My uncle buys it for me. I give her a coffee can either once or twice a day. I think it costs about 20 dollars for 3 or 4.

I don't really know on the deworming. Again my uncle does that for me to. Unless my mom buys it, then I'll do it, but usually he buys it.

So....do you give it once a day or twice a day? What size coffee can are we talking about here?

Without more info on the health care, it's really difficult to say if this is the horse's genetics or if it's because of poor care.

In the winter it is always twice, but in the summer it varys, because they have grass and hay.The coffee can is a big can. Its probably around 10inches high or so..... without looking at it..I am not sure.

I think we worm them about every 3 or 4 months is what my mom said. Probably not as much as we should, but they do get it at least that much.

Please don't take this the wrong way and think I don't take care of my horses. They are very well cared for. Thanks

Who is she out of? She very cute
Like imacowgirl2 said she's probably
not getting the correct nutrition to grow.
Preunia [sp?] has very nice feed for growing
horses thats around 15 dollars. I use to give
it to my baby's- you could mix that in with the
grain you give now; so it lasts longer. If you can't
afford to buy both once a month or at the same time.

Good luck with her she's adorable.

Those QH keep growing till about 4, so I wouldn't be panicing. When my now 4 year old was 8 months, we 'sticked' her and it said 16.1 hands. Last year when she was 3 I didn't think she would get there, but true to quarter horse form, she is 16 hands tall!!
Those babies grow quickly in the beginning, but it slows and becomes more steady (and less noticeable) as they get older. As long as you are feeding and worming right, she will turn out ok. I bet if you took pictures now and compared them to the old ones, you would notice a difference. I would encourage you to do that as soon as you can to reassure yourself
As you can see from some of the other posters on here, their yearlings are almost all on the same track as yours. Mine is a June baby and is 14 hands now. Although she seems short when I compare her to my 16 hand horse, Sassy is normal Well, as normal as can be expected anyway! hehehe
