Grow N Win

Anyone familiar with this product? I have a dillema...the owner of the barn I'm at was worried about my horse getting too much protein in one day. My horse is 16.2 and heavy boned. She was on 4 cups of grow n win two times a day and then two cups of oats two times a day. We backed her down to two cups of grow n win two times a day. I feel much better about the two cups, but I don't want to jip my horse. Anyone have any recommendations? Sorry this should go in the health section.

We feed Grow N Win to our horses...all the Buckeye products actually. We feed according to the directions on the bag, sometimes a little less if our horses are easy keepers, and have never had a problem. Why is your BO worried about too much protein? What else is your horse getting?

I think it would be because grow n win is 32% protein. we feed grown n win to our mare and foals over 3 months and our youngstock up to three years that are good doers. fantastic stuff and we follow the instructions, four cups does sound a lot but then your horse is 16h2. what age is your horse because ideally if hes over 3 I wouldn't feed grow n win, low cal would probably benefit him more. Also was told by a friend that gain does a very similar product called opti grow thats supposed to be good and half the price, we are looking into it.

My horse is eight years old. When she was four she was on a the same thing and was ripped LOL she was in great shape. She is an easy keeper, but since she has been on all this feed her little pot belly is gone. I just throught you know she doesn't look very healthy and asked a fellow horsewoman and she said to feed her that much (4 c of g&w and 2 c oats morning and night).

sweetrose: what kind of forage/hay is your horse on? If he is on grass hay, the Grow N Win is formulated with the higher protein to complement that, but if he is on alfalfa hay, he should be on the Alfa Grow N Win (instead of Grow N Win), which is only 14% protein to accomodate the extra protein in alfalfa hay. Also, you should be feeding the Buckeye products by weight, not volume, if you aren't already.

Well during the winter she gets 4 flakes morning and night. The hay is a mix of alfalfa and grass. The hay they are getting now is more alfalfa then grass. During the summer the hay gets cut back because they are on pasture. The are outside all day so they get quite a bit of grass during the summer.

Hehe, well, while your horse is on hay that is mostly alfalfa, you could switch him/her over to the Alfa Grow N Win if your trainer is that worried about the protein...but if he/she's going to be on pasture pretty soon anyways, I would just leave it
