I think you may have worded that a bit off because well cowboy magic is a shine product. You're right though about silicone, it dries the hair which in turn causes it to break and/or fall out over time. I have used silicone based products on my own hair and have experienced it first hand, lol. (No I didn't go bald, but my hair did get really thing before I figured it out.)
Sorry I meant the detangler, not the shine stuff

Do water based shiners (I use Sunshield) stop sweating?

I am a total clipping freak - chin, legs, long hairs sticking out anywhere! I just shave off the long guard hairs in the areas the blanket isn't covering them.
Hehe, you would want to jump my horse- he looks like a wooly mammoth. I am going to see if I can handle not clipping anything at all (except for keeping his bridlepath in check) this winter. Two months into the chilly weather and he looks like he would be cozy in the Yukon.

HalterGirl - I always loved Laser Sheen too until the lady at our local tack shop told me I was crazy! lol. She said that Show Sheen and Laser Sheen use silicone as a main ingredient and they cause more damage to the hair than they're worth. She told me she has internationally renoun riders in her store regularly and they've had in depth conversations about silicone on the coat and how it literally kills the hair more and more with each succesive application. eek!
Yeah! Anything with that much silicone is horrible for the hair...I don't even think Sho-Sheen works that well. I spray Eqyss Micro-Tek on my guy and it's always kept him nice and shiny, even when his coat is long, without any silicone at all.

well we never have had problems with laser sheen on our horses, and for those of you who have seen pics of my horses you know they obviously are not dull dead haired beasts. So I'll keep on usin it and you keep on not usin it. wink

this is just my opinion, dont take offence, but i dont think that the horses ear hairs should EVER be trimmed. they are there for a reason. to keep dirt out to stop the horse getting ear infections or flys getting in the ears.

My favorite grooming item is a toss up between Avocado Mist conditioner, and my long bristly Haas brush...that thing is amazing. Oh, and I'm also obsessed with braiding

All I use to groom my horses is the Curry, a hard brush, a soft brush and a cactus cloth(sometimes a shedding blade or a brush too). My favorite is my special curry, it works well on my beasts. I also love my cactus cloth to shine them up. I don't use detanlers on manes and tails, just brush them out. I use a human brush on my horses, not those plastic or metal combs. My horses are always clean and well turned out when It comes time for a rodeo, though they end up dirty dirty by the end, lol. Most of the time I keep their tails wrapped with vetwrap, keeps them outta the dirt, in the summer I might take them off, or put twine in. My mustang actually had his mane hogged for a while. Gee that was attractive, lol. horse_on

I groom daily with about a half hour of just curring before I excerciose them to et their blood going! I always sponge their sweat off with some vetrolin liniment. I clip my horses also. I used to braid and bag tails but now I just condition them. I bathe my horses weekly in the summer. and always rub them down with a soft towel after i am done grooming

i mainly just keep her blanketed especialy in the winter, in the summer all she gets is a lot of currying and some detangler and show sheen. I also use Equinique, i love that stuff it keeps your horse smelling good ALL the time.

but to answer your post.... a horse blanket is my best grooming tool, lol.
