MY TIPS
1. Try to groom on your horse every time your ride him/her. It helps keep them shiny and prevents the sweat from making the coat look dull. Brushing stimulates the oils in their skin and coat so the more often you brush, the shinier they'll be!
2. I use a towel to soak up any sweat when it's too cold to spray my horse down. I know Skeeter really like being rubbed, especially on his face!
3. I use baby wipes all over his body to remove dust that brushes can't get. I use them especially around the face.
4. I blanket my horse to keep his hair lying down and to prevent him from getting too fuzzy. This way i can be ready for the show season.
5. Finally, in the summer when I am able to spray him down, I do it every time I ride. Don't use shampoo every time though because it dries out their skin! i use Vetrolin Bath once a week, sometimes twice. It's super hydrating and it soothes him too!

A couple of things that I have tried and liked are:
1) I spray my horse down with a mixture of water, conditioner, and a brace after riding, it makes him feel good and helps to keep his coat healthy.
2) In warm weather he gets a shower after workouts, and a bath once a week, and his tail as often as needed. (hes a grey so it get dirty quickly!)
3) I LOVE "MTG" it really helps with hair growth, but I hate the residue, anyone else have this problem?
4) I use show sheen or similar product on his tail a few times a week, it tends to break easily, so I like it slippery so it doesn't break when being brushed or swishing flies.
I use a nylon sheet to polish the hair and keep him from getting bleached out by the sun.
5) I also use an apple cider rinse in the spring or anytime his coat looks dull, or like it has a product build up.

Gilliegirl, I love MTG also, but the residue IS a problem. It's some good stuff though!

well all i can recommend is that when you are brushing a tail out always do it from the bottom up so as you dont pull it out to much

also i recommend using human detangler its cheaper an works just as well

Smile small ideas...

hey all,
first timer here!

we show a lot so if any of u's are into it also.. try putting corn starch on ur white socks or any white areas as it brings it our beautifully!
the judge will notice that quickly...

baby oil or vaseline bring out them toes nicely .. you can use baby oill on the nose and around the eyes but I have never really recommemnded it too much as it will burn faster in the sun and cause sun burns..

Keep these kinda groomin' things going guys there're alot of help!

Everyone so far said BRUSH, BRUSH, BRUSH!!!

With a stabled horse, that's perfect.... but if your horse lives outdoors 24/7... it can be a problem.
You see, brushing a horse that lives outside to much rubs off the natural oils that keep your horse warm and dry.
