Exclamation Great News!! Horse Slaughter Might End!!

Hey! I have AMAZING news! There is a bill that is being considered that will end slaughter in the US and will end the transport of horses to slaughter!

A rescue I know Angel Acres was featured in the video!

Here is the report about it on WJZ:

http://wjz.com/pets/horse.slaughter.....2.654406.html (the video is graphic, it includes a horse being electrocuted, so be aware)

It makes me wonder how people can be pro-slaughter?

It's a really good report, so I thought I would share it with you.

I understand everyone's opinion, I just thought I'd share it with people because my rescue was featured in it.

I value the horse market, and that certainly isn't the only reason I'm pro-slaughter.

Agreed. Not jumping into one of these again, but while slaughter is distasteful it fills a need in the horse world.

Good news for some, bad news for others. One man's meat is another man's poison. I have to agree with others on this thread.

I do not find this as good news. We already have to many horses to deal with as it is and now it's gonna get worst. Not that we don't have to much to deal with now as it is. It's a shame. It really really is. I don't LIKE horse slaughter, but I do feel we need it. I don't like the slaughter of any animal, but it's something that is needed.

I'm not pro-slaughter. I'm anti-neglect. Search "horse neglect" in a picture search engine-it isn't pretty.
As long as there's irresponsible breeding, there's going to be the mistreatment of horses. I don't think any horse lover "likes" slaughter but it's necessary. Every rescue in the United States can not hold all the unwanted horses.

I would be the first one to support a bill advocating humane treatment of slaughter bond horses and other animals, but not to end slaughter.

I think it is great news! I am Ant-slaughter! As far as I have heard, all the slaughter houses in the US closed last September but they are still bringing horses from the US into other countries. I wouldn't be so Ant against it if they treated them nicely but the way they slaughter those horses in other countries is TERRIBLE!

I do not find this to be good news at all. This is terrible news. As another member already stated, I would be more than happy to vote for a bill that would improve the treatment of ALL slaughter bound livestock (not JUST horses) but I will never support this.

It's not good news, I saw that on WJZ the other day, and If they had somewhere on their website that I could have commented, I would have!

Where do they think all those unwanted horses are going to go? They will end up starving to death...there's not enough rescues or retierment farms to house all of the unwanted horses in the United States....

Just the racing industry here in Maryland, creates a ton of unwanted, lame horses every WEEK! and that is just one state!

Banning slaughter in the states was a bad idea, now they are going over the border, where no one cares how humanely they are slaughtered, at least here in the states, they were monitered...Cathy
