GREAAT! Player hurt himself PICTURE now with an UPDATE

But its not very good.

The injry itself isnt to bad. It is a puncture wound about half a CM across and a cm deep. Not dirty at all, I cleaned it today to be sure and wrapped it. It is between his knee and his pastern (i think thats what it is).

It happened Thursday. The girl that takes lessons on him brought him in and tacked him up and got on him walking. She said to the trainer "wow he's being pretty slow today" my trainer said yah, hmm try trotting him. As soon as he started trotting the head bob started and he was just DEAD LAME!!

****. So I went out there Friday all pumped to ride him and all happy and such and get out there, went to get him and loh and behold he has his leg wrapped. I was like bud, what did you do?? Took him inside and didnt unwrap it, but the hair around it was all shaved and I could see some of it.
Also his knee was swollen.

Today I went out there and rewrapped it and cleaned it out and stuff. The wound looks great. Red, not ***** at all. Unfortunatly his knee is quite swollen as is his fetlock. My trainer and I are quite worried about his knee. We were talking about getting the vet out and we are just gunna watch it really closly for the next couple days. If it doesnt get better we will get vet out.

Jeez good thing I got paid yesterday

I have a picture of it. well the part I saw yesterday.

ick.

you cant really see the swelling in that picture, but it is quite evident in person. dang.
oh and just cuz he was all pretty yesterday a head shot.

Is that vet wrap?It looks kinda tight.I would some cotton and rip an old towle long ways and use is as a wrap and use saftey pins or duct tape to hold it.Vet wrap tends to shrink and put to much pressure on the wound.I would also use Wonder Dust and Cut And Heal on it.Then you wont even haft to wrap it.Wash it twice a day and alternate with the two oinments. My weanling put her leg tru the high tensle fence at a farm two weeks ago,and it was swelled the size of a grape fruit from the hock to the cornet.Thats what I started useing and in a week the swelling went away and she is not longer lame. Also the cut was really deep and nasty and it's healing twice as fast as I expected.

ok thanks lol. I am using feriasin (sp?) the like flourescent yellow cream.

Yah its vet wrap. It definatly wasnt tight seeing as It slipped off the wound. Today it was really loose again. I am using cotton under the vet wrap.

I am not educated on how to deal with stuff like this so I am just using what my trainer told me and she is quite knowledgeable. (not meaning to sound rude/stuckup)

for a puncture would like that, I would also reccommend penicillin. I don't *personally* like to wrap wounds like that. Furicin is good, and lots of hold hose therapy to keep it clean.

It's ok.I'm studying to be a vet so I tend to go a little further than most would.lol I think you mean Fura zone?Thats pretty good too.I still like the Wonder Dust and Cut And Heal better tho.I do keep Fura Zone and Corona around too.

Make sure it doesn't scab over on top but be infected in the hole (puncture). You want it to heal from the inside out. I usually give antibiotics (pills) when a horse gets a puncture wound. Bute also...for the inflamation.
