Good, we scared some action into you I'm only half joking I think until you witness what a puncture wound can do, you just truly have no idea how serious they can get and fast. Demand that the vet comes out tomorrow, tell him/her about the puncture, the swelling, the lameness, all of it. Seriously bidness here. Let us know what happens!

heres an update of some sort...

His knee is not swollen anymore, he is on antibiotics because when we do push on the wound puss comes out. We are not wrapping it anymore because we want it to drain. He is on his own in a private paddock so he can get his antibiotics.

He looks so sad being by himself. When I walked outside and he saw me his ears pricked and it was like "MOM your here!!!" and he NICKERED to me. I have never heard him nicker to me before. I thought it was so cool.

so thank you to everyone who told me to contact a vet and push me towards it. So thank you so much

WhooHoo...good for you!! Just keep making sure it drains and doesn't close over too soon. I'm sure he'll feel better in no time.

I'm wondering if an Animalintex pad would help draw out some of the infection... I have always used them anywhere there is a puncture or infected cut that you can wrap... I can't say enough good things about those pads. It's amazing what will come out of a wound the next day after using one, and it also keeps the wound nice and clean.

when I dealt with a nasty abcess - not from a puncture but from an internal bone bruise that abcessed and burst at the elbow - my vet cut another, lower hole and tied a strip if betadine-soaked cloth through the 2 holes so that both would stay open and keep draining. I wish I could remember the name given to that cloth...
