Question grazing muzzles

Loren's mini Rocky is getting so fat I am sure he will explode. I am thinking about getting him a grazing muzzle. If I do, how long do I leave it on for during the day? Should I put it on him every day? Will he hate me forever for doing this to him?

I am doing the muzzle thing this year. From what I have seen, they prefer to wear it and get to go out and graze all day to standing in their paddock watching the grass grow.

Wear it all day, every day. Those things are really great for the chubby ponies. Just please, make sure it's adjusted correctly. My friend had hers so tight the mare could barely breath. I kindly let it out for her, LOL.

Rocky is out on pasture 24/7. I have no way of keeping him locked up at this time.

I have a chubby, laminitic pony. I started using one on her last year. I leave it on all day during this time of year since I don't have a dry lot. She sometimes manages to undo the velcro so it's hanging off her nose I usually put a treat in it when I put it on her - mainly because I feel bad for her!!! As the season wears on I adjust how much time she wears it because the grass isn't as lush. It sure makes a difference with her laminitis.

You may need to get halter tubes to prevent rubs, but I know a number of horses and ponies that use them with no problems whatsoever. You'll want to keep a close eye at first to make sure he doesn't get it stuck somewhere silly, you know how those ponies are!
