Gray x (color) = ?

I know gray is a dominant color when bred to other colors, but if I were to breed a gray mare to a stallion that was maybe grulla, black, buckskin, ect. that was homozygous black what would I get? The sire's side of the gray mare is mainly all sorrels, and the dam's side of the gray mare is mainly all gray's.
Thanks in advance.

If the mare is gray, no matter what you will have a 50% chance of the foal graying out. So, you can breed her to any color you want, and still end up with gray.

Yep. Gray is not a dilute. It is an ALL or NOTHING type of gene! IF you do not know if the horse is homozygous Gray or not, you have a minimum of 50% chance of a graying out or a 100% chance of a Gray. One or the other in chances.

Even a Grulla can "gray out" to a bright gray as they age.

So if I were to breed this gray mare to a homozygous black grulla stallion, I will still get a gray foal?
I dont know if she is homozygous gray....all I know is that for the most part the sire's side is mainly all sorrels and the dam's side is mainly all grays. Her dam has thrown alot(if not all) grays, and Im not sure about the sire.
Thanks for your help.

well what color gene does she have? and the stallion? if its mostly grey then you will most likely end up with a grey.

I have an 18 month old Quarab (Pepper) who's dam is so gray she looks white. No dark markings anywhere. Her sire is a dark bay. Pepper is gray with dark legs & face & a dorsal stripe. She's very unusual & a beautiful color. I will take some pics of her & post them before she grows her winter coat.
