Graphic pics... infection of vulva?

Went & looked at a mini mare today, 7yo, maiden & she's just been used as a pet.

Lifted her tail & was confronted with this!

She had ulcer type sores with puss, both around her vulva & inside, there is no smell to it. As gross as it sounds, stretching her vulva, in the creases its red raw with more puss.
It is a disgusting sight, so sorry for the pics, the mare is in no evident pain but obviously its a vet job.
What is it? After a vet check, could she still be used as a brood when healthy & clean again?

Has anyone seen anything so horrid??

Looks like a type of Herpes. If not herpes.. warts. Still not a pretty sight. If it is herpes, I'd walk.

Same here. If they wont get a vet check on it, and are knowingly selling her like that I would walk as well. As hard as it might be.

call some one who can take care of it, whether that be the police or an SPCA type group if the owners will not have it looked at. That way you know that the horse will be taken care of.

Looks like it could be dermattitis. Inflammation of the skin, this one could be caused by urine. Could be due to allergy, or infection, or could be secondary to trauma and injury. Only way to know is have a vet check it out.

Poor girl! Whatever it is I hope she gets better! Unless the vet says and you personally talk to the vet, that its cureable, I would pass also.

Thumbs down

If I was interested in her I would get a Vet to check her and give an opinion as to rather she would ever be 'breeding sound'. No way would I put her anywhere near my horses until I had assurance from my Vet that she was not contagious. I'd also be sure that I disinfected whatever clothing/boots/myself/etc. I had on while there.
A call to the local animal control/state Vet/ etc. is in order IF you do not buy her. It could be something that is highly contagious.
