he's been in surgery for a little while now, no word on how he's doing though. If they say they'll let us in to see him we're gonna drive up there tomorrow.

My dad said he was in good spirits this morning before the surgery. When he put on his gown he mooned dallas! lol... he stuck his butt up to the window. haha, he's always joking around

UPDATE

We went to dallas yesterday to go see him. He's still under anesthesia, they wanted to keep him under for a few days to help the skin graft on his chest to take hold and because he will be in a lot of pain. It killed me to see him on a respirator. I only went in there once and bawled my eyes out, i could only stay in there for 10 min without losing it. When they got him in to surgery they opened his chest and bad news.... its much worse than they thought. The tumor was even bigger than they had expected so they had to take out more of what they wanted to. The cancer is so bad in there that they only give him a year to live after having the surgery.

Oh my...I am so sorry!! I don't know what to say. My grandfather had lung cancer and died of Phnumonia (sp?) while recovering in the hospital.

Well...if he's feeling well enough...he can live that year to the fullest I can't imagine what that would be like....knowing that I was going to die within the next year. That would be so scary!! You know that it will just be...over.

Listen to the monty python song "Always look on the bright side of life". I really like this song. It makes death a sort of happy, funny thing. It really cleared up a lot of things for me...even though it's supposed to be for fun, it's quite deep and very uplifting. I hope you like it too Good luck to your Grandfather for a speedy recovery.

ANOTHER UPDATE...

They said they were going to start bringing him up out of anesthesia this morning so they can get the respirator out of him before he catches pneumonia. I hope it all goes well. He signed a paper saying that if something should happen he does not want to be recucitated (sp?) So keep your fingers crossed!!

I'm sure they wouldn't be taking the respirator out unless they thought it was safe, particularly with his DNR. Hopefully you'll be able to visit him and have a good chat filling him in on all that he missed out on while he was under. Unfortunately you'll also have to fill him in on his prognosis, but maybe that can wait a little while.
