I have two registered paints, one registered Morgan, a JC registered TB, a colt that I believe is AWS registereable, but is not registered yet, and one grade gelding, who is just as good as the rest in my opinion.

1 REG TB
2 REG QH
1 REG PAINT
1 QH WE DIDN'T REG
1 PAINT WE DIDN'T REG
2 MUSTANGS
1 HACKNEY PONY UN REG.

We didn't register a few of them, because we decided we would never sell them. So what was the point of spending the extra money.

All of my are Reg. but my rescue gelding but who knows he could be to somewhere, I dont worry to much about papers like someone else said "" you cant ride papers" but if I buy anything under 5 I want it to have papers just so I know the true age of the horse, but if it was someones horse that I know and it was grade I would buy it even if it was 15 just because I knew the person that owned it, I dont show or any of that stuff, nuthin I do requires papers, I would like to get into showing, but I dont know how to do that??

You also can't prove the age of an unregistered grade horse or it's breeding. So they end up being eternally 6 to 12 years old with the best sire and dam ever. It is not an issue of a registered horse is "Better" or not, it is an issue of year of birth and heritage.
