Got to see an Amish farm...firsthand!! Plus, good news!

Today I went with Mrs. R, her friend, and my sister to Kidron, where a lot of Amish people live. She has Amish friends, and she needed to take her mini and two of her friend's (not the one who came with us) mini's to the farrier, so she decided it would be fun to visit her friends Mary and Jonas while the horses were getting their feet trimmed and shod.
So we loaded up the horses and took them to the farrier's farm (he is also Amish) and left them there. I think he was a "higher up" Amish person because he didn't have to wear a hat at all times and they have a really nice house and barn.
But anyway, then we drove to Mary and Jonas's place. They are definitely old world Amish, because you can tell their house is really simple, they all have to wear hats 24/7 (well, maybe not at night, I don't know) and they can't use any kind of electricity or machine. I would hate to have to wear those dresses the women and girls have-long sleeves and long skirts, plus those bonnets that have got to be HOT. At least the guys can roll their sleeves up but not the women. Plus they have stockings and boots or shoes...if I were an Amish girl I know I'd want to just run around barefoot in the summer. But I guess you'd be used to it if that's how you'd lived all your life.
Jonas was working, with one helper, on cutting or baling hay-and they had ten loads to get off the fields. Ten loads, and they had to do it all by hand. What's more is that he has two sons, 17 and 11, who are just the right age to be helping with the farm work, but they have special needs and really can't do that much. I mean, they sort of can, but they wouldn't be much help as far as cutting hay goes.
So anyway, it was really cool seeing their farm and everything. There was a little calf there who was just born a few days ago! It was adorable.
Then we went to the Kidron Auction, which has all kinds of stuff but I think it's mainly a livestock auction. There were TONS of people, both Amish and "English" there, and tons of animals too. We looked around and Mrs. R got a pitchfork and shovel from someone just selling, not auctioning, stuff. It was a really cool day and I had so much fun.
And the other good thing is...I'm going to learn how to drive! No, not a car, I'm not old enough for my temps. Mrs. R is going to teach me how to drive a mini in a cart! Her friend, whose mini's we took to the farrier, is letting Mrs. R borrow a mini for a while, since Mrs. R's Silver is recuperating from a really bad wound in her...unmentionable area (it was BAD). So I'm going to learn how to drive Bub (yeah, Bub, what a name, huh?). He's really cute, he almost looks like a tiny version of a Belgian. I am so excited...I get to learn tonight!! So I'll let you know how it goes!

I love going to the Amish country. We always get fresh butter, cheese, and eggs. And we bought a hog off of one of the farmers. It's just a great day when we go!! Which is often, because one of the Amish fellows owns a tack shop, and we go there alot!!!

They had TONS of produce at the auction (well, it wasn't being auctioned, just sold) and it was all natural because they don't use fertilizer, at least not the kind you'd buy at the store.
