Got a BFT out! pics added

I Finally got a Bare Foot Trimmer out to trim cody. she took the shoes off and found that there was a nail going through the sole and one in the white line ! and that his bars were folding under. and she said that he had two soles. not to mention the long toes and under run heels and all the other things. she worked on him for 2 hours. he was really putting up a fight so she took some time out to do a little training with him. she took pictures to keep records of how his feet are doing. we will have him on a 3 week trimming for awhile. i would have taken pics but when she got done it was dark and frezzing out side so i just wanted to get him feed and get myself warm for the night. ill get pics tomorrow.

I cannot wait to see the pictures! I know you have been dealing with his foot problems for such a long time. Fingers crossed that you have finally found someone to help your horse.

I got a bare foot trimmer out this summer when I adopted my mini, she was his foster care home....what she told me about my tb mare shocked me, I knew she had an on going problem with a crack up the center of both front hooves, and had been on my ferrier about it...and he never seemed to get her right, hence me asking the BFT to do her...well it find out, she had seedy toe in both front feet, he was not taking enough toe off, and rolling it....well since august, the cracks have not come back, and my mare moves so much better in the front it is amazing! Plus the BFT is much cheaper to trim, and she don't mind Mikey and his antics , she will kneel and sit on the floor of the barn to trim this ornery mini.....she also don't mind older horses, and my friend who has two very old and stiff mares , is going to give her a call too....I am glad you found out what was wrong with your horse...Cathy

xiphias, just to be fair, the issues you had which were resolved had nothing to do with "farrier vs trimmer" - it was ONLY due to poor trimming vs good trimming

Good luck. Good trimming and alot of work(I don't know how many times I've had to disinfect my horses hooves with clean trax-thankyou muddy pennsylvania) have certainly served my horse well, hope it does the same for yours.

Oh my. I see about as much improvement at *I* would be comfortable making on this first trim on such poorly trimmed feet. That is great! Too much too fast and I think Cody would be VERY sore. When is BJ coming back? Soon I hope? *I* would probably want to trim these feet ever 2 weeks for a while. There's still so much that can be done, even if growth is slow, since so little was done (when you really look at it all) this time, that every 2 weeks trimming for 2-4 more trims would help Cody adjust to his changes over time and still make headway.

Keep us posted!
