^ Gooser in his booties and making faces at me.

Update:
Gooser is still sound and getting sounder. His trot is even more open and smooth, but he is showing a bit of short step at the trot on his RF. It has lessened in the last couple days.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2029th%202008/

His hind feet are growing like crazy! They already needed a touch-up trim on the sides and toe because he'd grown about a 1/4 inch of hoofwall since the first trim, which was what, a couple weeks ago now? The hind frogs have also expanded enormously. The hooves are developing at an amazing rate.

Here's a comparison of his left hind after his first trim, and after his second trim. See the difference? Especially in the hoofwall. The old, dead sole is wearing off in the seat of corn area and the toe- that's what those funny pock marks are.

His fronts are growing a bit slower, but the funny flat ridge of sole around the outside is sinking down. He's been in the hoof boots without the comfort pads so far. His movement is still looking great at the walk- he is so much more confident about his traction with the boots on. The frogs on the fronts are receiving contact (because he's so flat footed), and feel a lot tougher than they did. He is without boots in his stall, of course. I estimate his next trim with them will be sometime this week.

My personal egomaniac comment of the day: Holy $#|+!!! Who would've thought?

I'll email it.

He's been on biotin for about a month now, so has my other horse who was not growing at all... it's seemed to help.

After going over the two fronts tonight, they're almost ready for another trim... it was interesting because the RF, which he's been tender-footing a bit on at the trot, is shaped very differently from the left. The RF is more upright in it's angles and also more oval in shape. The left front is rounder and wider. So I think it's a pressure dispersal issue with the RF, since there is less area and a longer toe, proportionately.

Another thing I noticed about the fronts tonight is that there's actually some bars growing. My mom asked me if I can even remember *seeing* bars growing on this horse before now. LOL

The thing I have to be careful with now on the hinds is keeping the toe rolled and the heels from underrunning due to all this growth. It's insane, you can almost see it visibly day to day. I wish Turbo had this growth too... he's also a slow-grower I suspect. Turbo's hoofboots are on the way, so that should really prevent the walls from wearing prematurely.

Moreso, I wish every front foot had the recovering capabilities that the hinds seem to have... it must be because the fronts carry most of the bodyweight, most of the time.

Thanks. He's much prettier cleaned up and when that mane is under control

You wouldn't believe the things that horse can do with his lips. He's got his own little language with them, lol. I can get him to make faces for treats. He tries very hard. lmao

I'm glad Gooser is doing so well without shoes!!

Oh another thing that works well to help 'grow' feet are the Majesty's Bio Wafers. They have more biotin per cookie than the pelleted biotin (farriers forumla, horseshoer's secret, etc.) I used them on my boy when an abcess took 1/4 of his foot! They worked wonders.

The biotin I use is powdered, we get it from the local feed store. Who knows if it's even biotin? lol. But, it works.

I'll look into those Biotin cookies. Gooser and Turbo will eat just about anything, so they'd have no problem downing those.

My boy loved those cookies. He looked at me very sadly if I forgot to give it to him.
