I have been thinking about how i could make some $, so i thought about maybe when i turn 16 i could go 1/2's on a little flip pony with my cousin. If we buy a pony like this http://horse.classifieds.equine.com/horses/670358.html for $700, train it for about 1-3 months then sell it for around $2000-$5000. Would that be a good idea?

i have to say its good in theory but not nessessaruly a money maker i thin it depends though do you keep your horses at home or at a livery yard also when you have got the pony you have to remember it may not turn out how you would like it to also when the pony is ready you have to consider how long it wil take to sell

I agree with Cass..things dont always work out as planned. and IMP no one should buy horses to make quick money...you should do it because you love it.

How much upkeep will you be paying for min of three months? $5K is an awful lot, not to sound disrespectful, but I would not pay that kind of money for a pony that was trained by kids, non professionals. Even if you manage to sell for $2k, you won't be coming out on top like you are expecting. You have to account for board, feed, deworming, farrier. You'll be lucky to break even actually.

| Senior Member+ | I'm doing the same thing, but not to make money. I think if you go into this you should do it as a learning experience, and not plan on making money - you'll be lucky if you break even. The reason that I am going to buy, train and then sell is because financially we can afford it (even if we end up not being able to sell the horse), and (like i said) it's a wonderful learning experience - as long as you know what your doing. I'd say if you can financially be responsible for the horse no matter what happens, then go for it. It would be fun. GOOD LUCK |
