Bleach works, but it burns. I use iodine. It's messy, but it doesn't seem to bother them as much. There are also tons of thrush ointments and liquids that every tack and farm supply store sell.

Bleach works but it needs to be diluted 50-50. At that ratio it doesn't even burn MY skin which is saying a lot. Even that Orango Glow stuff(not used on my horsies but in the bathroom) at a dilution burns my skin and that stuff is supposed to be "natural".

edited to add...bleach is what the vet recommended to me to use, in the 50-50 ratio over the thrush medications.

I really believe the best thing to use is a product that was made specifically for curing and preventing Thrush like Kopertox , Thrush Buster, Thrush Stop, Thrus Remedy...or any of the other ones! Not only do you want something that will kill the bacteria but also provides water-resistant protection.
During the wet muddy season I apply Kopertox to the soles of our horse's feet, even if there is no thrush, as part of their regular hoof cleaning process. It works for me!

I use Thrush Buster, but bleach in the 50/50 ratio works just as well. If you use bleach make sure you don't get any on the horse's leg, and keep a wet rag handy to wipe it off if you spill any on the horse or yourself.
