Hmmm. I've never heard of anyone using iodine before...but if it works for you, it must be pretty good then.

I've always used bleach/water at a 1:1 ratio. It works very good for me. I put it in a spray bottle and just squirt it on the bottom of the hoof. Hold it up for a few seconds so it can soak it, then let it go. Do that twice a day for a week or so, and it should be gone. I have had that recommended to me by two farriers, both very experienced. I have never used a commercial remedy, but I've heard some of them don't work very well.

I would think that the bleach would depend on the sensibility of the hoof of that particular horse, but I have used it on my paint and it worked wonders. After about 7 applications the Thrush pretty much cleared up. I would call the vet and give it a shot. Good Luck!

I have heard something about sugar and betadine mixed together would get rid of it. But I'm not sure how much to mix or anything, maybe someone else has heard it?? Koppertox works too,but I like ThrushBuster and ThrushRemedy.

Try using absorbine veterinary liniment(liquid, not gel) because it's suppose to kill bacteria. I have used it in the past and it did work well.

Bleach Water is my favorite kind of treatment. I've used everything on Blister when we'd get it. And the only thing that works the best is the Bleach water. Technically, you dilute it 1:10. 50:50 is strong for horses, especially sensitive horses. Be careful with any product. I've heard of horses being sensitive to the Kopertox. Either way, watch your horse's feet and legs carefully for signs of reaction.

Thrush is a bacterial infection, or is it fungal, anyway it is caused by manure and other debris hanging around in the hoof for to long. It's also known as hoof rot. A lot of horses have mild forms of it, some have severe forms of it. If you keep feet clean and keep clean bedding in a stall, your horse should be fine. Let me see if I can find a web site that talks more about and can give you a better explaination.
