Oh god...the murder happened...uhm...15 years ago I believe? I think it was around then, I'm truly not for sure. But why would they keep the horses there then?

The estate would be settled to the point that the horses can be removed and sold and funds left to the estate if this truely happened that long ago.

You defintily aren't getting the whole story on the horses.

If you are concerned, go direct to the source. Find out the owner of the property, (Tax office has that info) and contact them about possibly purchasing a horse or two. You can find out a LOT of info when you go to purchase about previous owner.

Probably what occurred, was the people who were left the property and the horses don't CARE about the horses. They don't know that a closed herd isn't the best idea. Or it isn't a closed herd, you just never see the change of mares.

Until you know the story from the source, don't rely on rumors and stories the TOWN tells you.

BW is right, most property owners can be looked up online, via the county's property appraisers office.

Ok, I know I am not a moderator or anything, but I really don't think we should be arguing about the horses's Lucky_pine is talking about. It seems really weird to me as well, but no one knows the whole story. We really should just drop it.

I just started the post to get opinions and thoughts on the grade horses and the pros and cons of breeding. I did not want to start any fights or anything.

Can we please let it go before it starts to get ugly?

There are so many horses now on the ground that don't have good homes. Why keep breeding and creating more. Want a baby go get a blm. We need to get em off the range anyway and out of the huge warehouse pens.
Most folks out there with mares think they are awsome. I have one myself. I see her as only I can. Rose colored glasses lol. She is not going to breed as long as I have anything to do with it.

A fat, ugly, useless mare with god-awful conformation can still throw good babies
Very true. We used to have the UGLIEST App mare I've ever seen. Her conformation wasn't bad, but it wasn't excellent either. She had a roman nose, a short back, a big head, her color was kind of like a flea bitten grey with big black spots everywhere. She was fast, I'll give her that. She was a horse we picked up without seeing (bad idea) from a friend. We bought her because she had excellent barrel lines and we figured what the heck.....she can be used as a broodmare. HA! I was madder than a hornet when we went to get her. She was SOOOOOO ugly LOL.

Anyways, point is - She hasn't thrown a bad baby yet. EVERY time she has thrown excellent conformed and gorgeous babies that have won mo ney in the barrel industry or some other speed event. I;m actually glad we ended up with her.

Breeding grade horses is like buying a lottery ticket; you may win, but the chances are unlikely.

Breeding quality registered stock is like buying mutual funds.... still risky, but much great likelyhood to get a postive return.

When you can look back generation after generation you can make an EDUCATED guess about what you'll get....with grade horses (although they may be excellent quality) is like mixing chemicals you don't know...you have NO idea what reaction you'll get.

Here is my good reason

I love my Grace and wouldn't trade her for a papered horse any day!! I don't think she is in any way lacking in the quality department. I've seen papered horses that don't look half as good as she does and I'm not saying that because she is mine either.
