| Senior Member+ | Then, that is YOUR interpretation of my words. NOT what I said. I think I've been on this forum long enough and have debated this issue often enough, that most on here already know my meaning behind my words, if they are not clear enough. I like you TopDun. I really do! You have helped me tremendously with one of my horses, and have given great advice to other members here. But, sometimes, I think you get in your "nit picking" moods on purpose, and are out just looking for something to complain or argue about. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying, as I have done it plenty of times myself, when I'm feeling irritable or something. But, come on now.....I have never said horses should be worshipped, or implied it, nor have I ever said or implied that horses should live over people living!

I'm not Nit-Picking as you call it, I'm just SICK and TIRED of the anti-slaughter double standards Such as the examples below: Well you have an option to euthanise the horse ( ie a responsible owner would euthanize the hose they don't want" Or Animals are for Life and if you can't keep it then euthanize it. Yet then you turn around and degrade those who do EXACTLY what the Anti slaughter position preaches. (ie How dare some one kill a horse instead of selling or giving it away.) I still want to know WHY that double standard exists? Why Is it even an issue? Responsible owners are doing the right thing ( by anti-slaugher standards) and are helping reduce overall horse populations by euthanizing horses and yet they get trashed, criticised and harassed instead of being praised for being responsible.

I don't know any other way to state it so you will understand what I am saying. I am in no way, promoting that every horse that someone owns, be euthanized, rather than rehomed if possible. If the possibility of re-homing it is not an option, then yes, put it down. Death should only be used as a last resort, when all other options have been considered/exhausted. To put it the way you are saying it, means....any horse you now own, you cannot sell it or give it away, and you have to euthanize it. That's not what I'm saying at all. I DO support and fully understand someone putting down a perfectly healthy, and young horse, if they can't give it away or sell it to someone who will do right by the animal. I have absolutely NO quarrels with that. Better to put the horse down, than to let someone who you know isn't going to take care of it have it. NO question about that!!! What I'm saying is if you have someone who wants your horse, whether it is free or for sale, and they are willing to pay the price you want, and you feel confident enough that they will provide a good home for it.....then why not let them take the horse? Why would you prefer to kill it?

At the end of the day all that matters is that YOU are comfortable with the choice YOU made for your animal. If you feel that your horse is better off euthanized than given away so be it. You and only YOU can make that decision for your horse and you will do what you think is best. Some may feel that recycling via rendering or slaughter so be it, if you choose to give it away to what you feel it a good home so be it etc.... You are the only one that has to live with the decision you make. That's the joy of living in a free country, you have decisions, be thankful for them.
