Unhappy girths ???

i am a bit confused. i have always done up my girth on the first and second girth strap but my friend says it is correct to do it up on the first and third. why do they have a second one then? the girth fits fine on the first and second. any advice?

The first two are attached to leather, I think, and the third is attached to nylon? Or maybe I have it reversed...?

I'm sure the exact material varies from saddle to saddle, but the first two are attached to the same piece of something, and the third is seperate. So if you have it on the first and second and that material breaks, your girth falls off. If you have it on the first and third, either of the materials can break, and your girth's still on. On mine actually, they're both attached to elastic, but the 1st two are on the same piece of elastic and the third's on a seperate piece.

I learned that you were supposed to put it on first and third, I used to do 1st and 2nd but then my instructor told me otherwise.

usually its the first one that is attached to something different isnt it? or is the games saddle im sat looking at now just really really old? Iwas always told you should do your saddle up on either the first and second or first and third for this reason.

I never knew why but I was taught to do it on the first and third. Makes sense though.

Yep - you're supposed to use the 1st and 3rd billets Dawn is right - the first two are attached to the same piece of leather and the third is seperate. Not only that, but using the third billet helps keep the saddle more stable in the seat. (Less movement)
