Question Getting into showing

We are from California-Central Valley and we have 3 horses we want to show in AQHA and then a TB we would like to show as well whether it be a nonbreed show or something like gymkana-someone mentioned this to me but Im not sure exactly what it is.
The thing is I don't know where to start or who to call. None of our friends who own horses show there horses so I can't go to them. I think I might call AQHA tommorow and see what I can do with that but like with my TB I wouldn't have a clue as to where to go for him.

Contact a local horse 4H program, they always know about upcoming shows.

If you go to the AQHA website they should have a list of shows near you. Also with 4h most of the shows you have to be a 4h member and 18 or under, but some of them have shows that are open to the public.

Whats the difference in the 'types' of shows the list and what would you recommend for me.
Also are there shows I could do with my TB?

Well, I wouldnt start out at AQHA shows they are super competitive and Stressful. I would ask around and find out about the local horse societies in your area. Most of them have local schooling shows that you can go to that you can show any horses at even your TB. They are really good practice and alot of times at the ones I do the People who do the AQHA shows and APHA shows come so I get a feel for what it's like at a bigger show without having to go through all the stress and crazy amounts of money they cost.

Yes, but I'm suggesting to contact a group and ask about upcoming open shows. Sorry, I didn't make that clear. A lot of the 4Hers do both 4H shows & local open shows. Here, all our 4H shows are at the local Fairgrounds, so most of the 4H people know about other open shows that are going to be there, and almost all of the shows around here are there.

Did that make sense?
