My out of shape horse has got to start getting ready for trail riding. What do you all recommend to get him ready and despooked? He is very well trained but a little spooky but I can rub pastic bags all over him. We are really both out of shape because I have been having babies, and they are now, almost 6 months, 2 yrs. and 3 yrs. So, I am done and it is back to riding for us :-). Thanks!! |

Im thinking this is in the wrong section... if you are asking getting ready in the sense of desensitization, training... anyway- as far as getting ready for the trail- I really dont have an advice, except to get out there and do it... ring work will only get you so far, you have to get the horse out there to get him used to trail riding, and seeing new things.

Well, he has been trail ridden before, just not in about 4 years. He has been ridden in those years, and rides good, just don't want to overwhelm him as far as his health with him being out of shape. I meant to put it under training, but I am concerned about putting to much work on him. I guess I will just ride him and work him alot in the round pen for exercise. I am going to Heart of Dixie Trail Ride Oct.24-28 and will be riding him everyday there. Thanks. |
