| Senior Member+ | Garden State Park, what 'we' had ![]() What 'they' did: http://www.equinephoto-art.com/limitededition.html (demol pics) I went past it yesterday on a b-cake hunt; I coulda puked. Lo-rise luxury condos hulking over the road, a huge Cheesecake Factory in the middle of the 'track', wraparound shopping center, and Home Depot where the Clubhouse ^ was. Wait a minute, wasnt Home Depot In GS Pavilions, the shopping center next door? Uh-huh, HD moved 100 yds east. There Were huge mature Oak trees all along the road, dozens of them; Gone save 2, most were in the way of a Sidewalk. A Few would have been sacrificed to turn-offs, most could have stayed. So much is just "so wrong" out there, itll be easy to stay out of. The track's last owner was put in jail for "defrauding" investors (securities). Ive actually said they ought to let him out of jail, b/c nothing he did to bring the track back and keep it running is anywhere Near the crime/s that have happened since the developers got it. oh and the township? Got almost $1M from the state in the last bankrupcy - er - budget, despite having bulldozed the track they used to get $3M from, and the clubhouse that was the Improvement that generated $1.5 M. Morons.

| Senior Member+ | 15 yrs old. Built "Like a bombshelter" (Demo took a LOT longer than anticipated b/c of it. "GSP fought back every step of the way"). Beautiful inside. Backside was almost solid glass. "Crystal Paddock" attached to the clubhouse where horses saddled up, like a huge solarium, viewable even from Currier & Ives restaurant on the 5th floor. "Phoenix" high-class restaurant on the 6th floor. (Personally, Phoenix is where I wanted to have a wedding reception.. someday .) The place had a capacity of 10s of 1000s; if there was natural disaster, it could accomodate, house and even feed a Lot of people. Duh, no, they go useless & commercial with it.. GS hosted not only races, but a Lot of Community affairs, even the State Fair. Cant do that stuff there now... ST Fair is now in scenic Sussex Cnty... way way way up north! ![]()
