Flag race. Barrels set up in the barrel racing formation. Theres a bucket with flags on one barrel, then an empty barrel, then an empty bucket on the other. You run down, snatch a flag, go around the outside of the far barrel, then u have to get the flag into the empty bucket. i bet someone can explain it better than me.

Oh, I want to do a fun show. I love playing games. I like playing capture the flag on horseback, or rather "capture the crop", but that's more of a team game than an individual game.

Our farm has montly fun shows here are some of the things we have.

Sir Lancelot_ they have 4 tall poles tied tot he fence with an arm like an upside down L. From this they hang a piece of baling twine with a clothspin on the end. They use a clothes pin to hang the rings which are coffe can lids with the center cut out.
Each rider takes a broomstick or something similar and has to ride the course and snag each ring on their "lance". Fastest time wins, 1 secound penalty for missed or droped rings.

Ribbon race_ riders team up in pairs. Each holds one end of a piece of crepe paper. There are poles (like for pole bending) in each corner of the ring about 5 feet in to form a track. Riders race around the ring twice and who ever finnishes still with each rider holing an end of the intact ribbon wins. Breaking the ribbon earns a no time.

Obstacle course Can include a bridge, walk over a tarp, open a mailbox, cary a flage from one barrel to another and stick it into a sand filled coffe can, walk through a ribbon curtain or wahtever else you come up with.

We also do things like pole bending, down and back and barrels.

Pony express_ I saw it on tv. Teams of two riders. Use the track created for the ribbon race. Have one person holding a saddle bag race around the ring to the teamate and hand off the saddle bag to them. Ther secound teamate races around to the finnish line. This is safer if timed but can be run team against team in a large enough ring.

egg and spoon ---rider carries spoon w/ egg while w/t/c last w/ egg wins

musical chairs--- pairs of riders w/one horse. person one of teams rides horse at walk bareback while music goes and person 2 waits in middle. when music stops, person 1 jumps off and runs to center and person 2 springs on the horse. person 1 can't run until their team member is on the horse, last to center loses

www.mounted-games.org

loads and loads of ideas here. This is the international mounted games website so these are all the professional games but you can still do some of them with regular stuff you have lying about the barn etc.
