Gaited Arabians/Half Arabians

Due to many knee problems/surgeries I've been looking more into gaited breeds. I've rode a few gaited horses and I don't have nearly as much pain in my knee after a ride. I hate the idea of leaving the arab world, but was wondering if there is anyone out there crossing PB arabs to gaited breeds?

I'm looking more for the arab crosses with the Tennessee Walking Horse, Spotted Saddle Horse, Paso Fino, etc. Basically more of a pleasure, trail type horse.

If you want a VERY smooth ride, i suggest you try a peruvian paso. they are AWESOME horses with VERY smooth rides, and are great for trails.
where are you from?
its just a suggestion, seeing as you want something thats part arab. its just that peruvian paso's have probably the smoothest ride i've ever ridden

Look at it this way....since the Arabian Breed is the foundation of most of the light horse breeds we have today you are not really leaving the breed at all...

When it comes to personalitly and "feel" my personal experience is that the Peruvian Paso Horse reminds me most of the Arabian breed...however....have you looked into the National Show Horse?
If you can find one that is five gaited and has been trained to slow gait and rack you can still have your Arabian (okay, part Arabian) and easy riding gait too.
I know many people who have purchased a five gaited breed and ridden it in the rack exclusively. So think is something you can also look into.

I've tried to look at it that way....that the arab is the foundation horse of most breeds...but the main reason I want a gaited half arab is because I want it to be registered half arab through AHA so I can still participate in arab/half arab distance events/programs through AHA.

I do love a pretty NSH!! But, it seems hard to find a 5 gaited NSH that isn't bred for the show ring.

I'm still working with arabs, but just end up in so much pain after a long ride. I'll be competing at my last arab show in September...after that I plan to make a change.

just becareful when looking for one make sure that it IS gaited and still smooth its hard to find TWH crosses that do gait and are smooth. I train.show TWHs and ill never go back to anyother breed I love the thought of beign able to go out on the trail for 3hrs and be able to just go and not get sore from a long ride...good luck in your search!

Then get busy and network.....get the word out that you are looking for a AHA registered 1/2 Arab that is gaited...and would suitable for distance riding type competitions.

Remember, just because a horse is "bred for the show ring" does not mean that it will not also be suitable for what you want to do with it.
The price might be more than your willing to pay in some cases, but this is where taking your time and not getting in a hurry to buy comes in.

I have seen many a show horse that has left the show ring and not only enjoyed doing something else, but was very successful at it. So look more at conformation and disposition than how the horse is bred and currently trained for as well as doing. Some NSH horses (any breed of show horse for than matter) are more versatile than one might first think if given the chance to try something else.
