Fungus? Or?

I noticed a little bumpy thing on my horse's pastern, on the side near the bottom and it was hard, kinda like a scab so I picked at it and thought it was an old cut and put some wound balm on it. Anyway, it looks like it spread, it's clumpy, kinda sticky and I noticed it on 3 other legs, around the same spot. I can pick at it, it's sort of flaky too.

Almost looks warty, but it's not, it's hard to explain.

Anyone have ANY idea what it could be?

Definately sounds like a fungus. Probably rain rot. It's sort of difficult in that area, but lots of vigirous brushing will help (helps with circulation, also 'irritates' the skin so as to jump start the body's healing process). As well as a wash with same betadine or iodine based shampoo or rinse.

I am dealing with major rain rot too, and Best of Princess's mare who had hives, it turned out to be rain rot too, and a bunch of horses at her barn have it too....it is so frustrating, it is too cold to bath, and Xiphias has it all over her....I have never seen it on a horse this bad, she has never had it before either...I got some EQuss micro tek shampoo and spray....she got a bath and I have been spraying her...is there anything else that I can do to help clear this up faster ? It's scratches, which can be fungal or bacterial or both. Does he have white legs/socks/stocking? The pink skin is must susceptible to the stuff. A combination of less than ideal immune system and/or pink skin and/or sunlight and/or moisture and/or fescue and/or clover can trigger it.

Keep it dry dry dry. Don't pick scabs unless they come off easily. Mix desitin, cortisone cream, neosporin ointment together and apply a couple of times a day. Don't wash off, just wipe.

sounds like scratches to me too. I have tried every remedy under the sun for them. they almost seem to get immune to the remedies after a while too.

The best thing I have found is washing with Betadine. I use a very soft brush to scrub. After I rinse the leg I apply sulphur (found at garden centers) to the leg. It makes like a paste as it hits the water on the leg. I can cure a bad case in days with that method.
