Full QH Bars and Semi QH Bars

Can some one please explain to me the difference between Full QH Bars and Semi QH Bars. Are the Semi QH Bars shorter? What bars do you usually find in a barrel saddle? Probably most people know this but I don't. Not yet anyway?

Semi QH usually have a 6 1/2" gullet, and Full QH bars tend to have a 6 3/4" or 7" gullet. Full QH bars are made for horses who have wide, broad backs.

Most saddles are semi-quarter bars unless it says otherwise.

Oh ok! I was thinking the length of the tree. But it is the gullet width. Hmmm.....so if I measure the gullet of my barrel saddle I should be able to tell if it is full QH Bars or Semi?

Probably. Sometimes it depends on a brand. One brand's semi-quarter bars might be another brand's full quarter bars.

it is the width of the gullet, how wide it is in front at the flare. Launa, most likely you need a full QH bar which can be hard to find with a short enough length to go with it because most wide horses are usually big as well LOL

Your best bet is to find an endurance or barrel saddle in a wide tree for Tucker since they are generally shorter in length regardless of bar size because of the style.

On the front of your saddle, usually approx. where the front dee rings are is where you need to measure to get an idea how wide your saddle is. If it is fairly new, you should be able to look it up online or call the maker if there is a modelstyle # on it and they can tell you too if you are unsure of your measurements.

It also depends on the saddle maker. Some makers semi is the size of a Full QH bars.
