| Senior Member+ | Friends far away, how do you deal?
I went to a private school for a while and made amazing friends with people. Most of them ended up moving out of country, because of their parents jobs. So now I have close friends all over and my only connection is online - long distance calls are SO expensive. I'm having a really hard time dealing with this. Not being able to be physically with them is so hard to cope with, because it's so different than talking online, way more personal. I get so upset about this - knowing that I'd fit in so well where they are makes living where I do like ****. Not only is that a problem, but I feel like I'm secluding myself because I feel nobody can live up to their standards or something. I'm just waiting for something great to happen, when really I need to get out there and make them happen. I'm 16 now and waiting so anxiously to turn 18 when I can go off to university and truly become my own self, but I don't want to look back on highschool and be like, "I wasted my youth." I keep trying to tell myself that there's way more to life than highschool, but it doesn't work... How do I cope?!

Hmmm well I had the opposite problem... Once I graduated high-school all my friends dispersed. But I still keep in touch with most of them, and on holidays some of them come back to visit, or I go out there to visit them. I find the internet an invaluble tool for long distance communication... I live in a diffferent city than my boyfriend for part of the week, and having MSN saves me! LOL Maybe try getting a web cam? or there is something called Skype that is free and its like an online phone/webcam type thing. As for making new friend.s... just giver. There's no harm done in having two groups of friends

My friends literally live on the other side of the world so i guess you could say I have a long distant relationship with a lot of my buddies! All I can suggest is take the time to write snail mail. Its soooo much more personal than a quick email or message. Also buy a calling card, it really helps cut down the cost of long distant phone calls.

I only have a few really good friends and some of them have moved to go onto college. But we have made a yearly trip that we all make to the ren fest in texas once a year. It's not alot of time to spend or see someone but it sure is great to reconnect! |
